While working out is essential for our health for numerous reasons, so is getting the proper nutrition. In honor of National Nutrition Month this March, we’re discussing ways you can incorporate more nutrients into your daily meals! In the meantime, when you’re ready to start your fitness journey, our Worcester fitness gym, Fastwitch Fitness, is here to welcome you!

Potassium

This mineral is important for maintaining healthy blood pressure, nerve and muscle function, and heart health. You can find substantial sources of potassium in foods like bananas, spinach, avocados, and sweet potatoes.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is essential for things like healthy vision, skin, and immune function. It’s found in many orange and yellow fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and cantaloupe, and mangoes.

Calcium.

This mineral is vital for healthy bones and teeth, muscle function, and nerve transmission. You can find an adequate source of calcium in dairy products like greek yogurt, cheese, and milk, leafy green vegetables, and fortified plant milks.

Iron

Iron is important for healthy red blood cells and oxygen transport throughout the body. Foods like red meat, poultry, seafood, beans, and fortified cereals contain great sources of iron.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D plays a large role in bone health and immune function. Our bodies can make Vitamin D when our skin is exposed to sunlight, but it’s also found in fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified dairy products- even fortified orange juice.

Vitamin C

This vitamin is important for immune function, wound healing, and iron absorption. It’s found in many fruits and vegetables, including citrus fruits, berries, and leafy greens (arugula, kale, spinach, etc.).

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

These essential fatty acids are important for brain and heart health and may also have anti-inflammatory effects. You can find sources of omega-3s in foods like fatty fish, flaxseeds, walnuts, and chia seeds.
